Applications

Applications for autoclaves, serviced by Imtech-Steri

The areas and applications where autoclaves can be used are many and varied. They are used for:
  • Decontamination
  • Deactivation

Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries

  • Steam Sterilization Plants are used for Sterilization in chemical and pharmaceutical Industry
  • Chemistry: In autoclaves, under pressure, different processes are possible: polymerization, Mination or reaction of hydrogen
  • Research and experimentation in laboratories using autoclaves (pharmaceutical researching, oil production industry....)

Deactivation and Decontamination Plants

Special facilities used for decontamination of wastewater from research laboratories. The term ‘sterilization’ is not used, but ‘decontamination’ as it is not often that proof of sterility is required. These facilities are normally in the basement of research or experimental facilities. They gather wastewater from autoclaves, fermenters, washbasins, showers etc. that cannot be directly disposed of but must first be decontaminated in order to protect both human and the environment.

Hospitals

Every hospital uses sterilizing equipment. Autoclaves are used primarily for the sterilization of all surgical instruments (e.g. needles, instruments…), to penetrate a sterile cavity (e.g. bladder) and everything that must be absolutely germ-free (e.g. feeding bottles, serum, infusions)

Animal Husbandry

For laboratory animals, the very opposite is true of what is found in human medicine. Regarded as “pure” creatures, these animals must be protected from humans as carriers of germs. Food as well as water, boxes, straw etc., must be introduced into the clean room through sterile channels in order to feed and look after these animals. This normally takes place via sterilization using an autoclave. In this way everything that the animals need is sterile.
